The masks are made of dark wood, they are sad and scary, and the clothes are sheepskins or goatskins.

The deafening sound of the cowbells is meant to drive away evil spirits, wake up nature, and bring good harvests or fertility to the livestock.

In ancient times, she used to take small mice from a tin jar and release them when necessary, causing everyone to run away in a panic; today, she disturbs passers-by by painting their faces with soot.
In times without rains some men use bones and sticks to call for rain.
In other parts of the world, Carnival is a celebration, but in Sardinia it represents an ancient magic to wish good luck.

The two main masks are: the shepherd dressed in skins and mask or his face blackned by soot and the animal covered in skins and a mask with horns and cowbells.

Symbolic ritual gesture that represents man's victory over chaos, the defense of the flock and pastoral life, the overcoming of winter, the return of order and fertility.
