Prehistory is the time before writing. It was very, very long time ago. People lived in nature.
They were not monkeys. They were something in the middle. They lived in Africa millions of years ago. The first hominids could walk on two legs. They could carry food and use their hands.
Who Were the First Hominids?

aUSTRALOPITHECUS
One of the first hominids was Australopithecus. He lived about 4 million years ago in Africa. Australopithecus was: small, about the size of a child, with long arms and a small brain.
Study case
LUCY
The most famous Australopithecus is called Lucy. Scientists found her bones in 1974 in Africa. She lived 3.2 million years ago.
