Texture of Sweetness

Anonymous, Felt craft

I created this piece in a felting workshop. It consists of reused felt which echoes the importance of using sustainable materials and creating without taking. In an increasingly digital world, it can become difficult to find time to do something with out hands other than typing or scrolling. The citrus motif was inspired by my hometown, a formerly leading producer of oranges turned housing development, boring beige. All the orange groves have been cut down in favor of building more and more buildings, harming the animals that used to live in these groves. The intent of this piece is to remind us about what the land around us can provide if given the chance, and inspire us to return to a more fruitful existence.

Altadena Fire, January, 2025

Anonymous, Photography

The Eaton Fire in 2025 burned for several weeks, destroying lives and infrastructure, particularly in the community of Altadena, California. This cloud of smoke and ash was visible some eight miles away. The U.S. Department of Justice eventually determined that the cause of the fire was high tension power lines. In the year since this tragic event, many governmental and community groups are hard at work cleaning up debris, preserving trees, and rebuilding the community.

Blue blessings

Anonymous, Photograph

The beautiful blue colors of Shirogane Blue Pond in Hokkaido, Japan. This photo showcases a pond that was not made on purpose but on accident. Dead larch and birch trees add a mystical effect that showcase the imperfections of human efforts. Yet, there is still beauty which should make us still try and persevere during these times.
