Problem Statement

The problem is with math fact fluency is that teachers struggle with how to implement instructional strategies for math fact fluency. Some teachers do not know how to plan or model grade[1] level appropriate strategies. The impact of the problem is that when scholars cannot solve math facts fluently, they will continue to struggle in more abstract and procedural areas in upper grades. A possible cause of the problem is that teachers have not had any or enough Professional Development (PD) on math fact fluency strategies that will effectively address the lack of knowledge for math fluency.

Problem Statement-impact

The impact of the problem is that when scholars cannot solve math facts fluently, they will continue to struggle in more abstract and procedural areas in upper grades. According to, UC Irvine News, when teachers are faced with scholars that struggle in math, teachers are most likely to use ineffective strategies for learning (University of California, Irvine, 2014). This impacts scholars ability to solve math problems and later skills like multiplication and division.

Problem Statement-Cause

A possible cause of the problem is that teachers have not had any or enough Professional Development (PD) on math fact fluency strategies that will effectively address the lack of knowledge for math fluency. According to Homeschool with Dyslexia Memorization is not that important if scholars do not understand the relationship between the numbers (Marianne, 2025). Seeing that teacher struggles with the implementation, a teacher may not know what grade level is appropriate and the vary of strategies and tools for each grade level. When teachers cannot implement or teach math fluency, the scholars will struggle, those skills will never develop, and scholars will not do will in math and will continue to struggle. A professional development on how to implement math strategies for math fluency. For example, how to use the count on/back method or how to add/subtract ten (10), fact families or friendly numbers.
