Summary

In this presentation we will gather people to answer our very important question

What can I do for a sustainable living?

Personally, I think for us to live sustaiable lives we should not waste resources and we should not litter we should always recycle our trash to keep a good future

Now let's see what you think can be done for a sustainable living!
Eleni Papadogianni's team 2ο ΓΥΜΝΑΣΙΟ ΚΩ-ΙΠΠ

Sustainable living involves reducing your environmental footprint through daily actions like cutting energy use, adopting a plant-based diet, reducing waste, and choosing sustainable transportation. Key steps include eating locally/seasonally, using LED bulbs, repairing items, buying second-hand, and avoiding single-use plastics to save money and the planet. Energy Saving: Switch to LEDs: Save up to 90% on lighting energy. Wash cold: Use cold water for laundry and air-dry clothes. Unplug: Remove chargers and appliances when not in use. Insulate: Seal gaps in doors and windows to keep heat in. Food & Consumption Eat more plants: Reduce meat to lower your carbon footprint. Zero waste: Buy only what you need and compost scraps. Shop local: Choose seasonal and plastic-free products. Buy used: Prioritize second-hand items over new ones.

Öznur's Team Bolu Bilsem:
  • Replace old incandescent bulbs; they use 75% less energy and last 25 times longer.
  • Stop phantom energy: Unplug chargers, appliances, and TVs; idle electronics cause 10% of home energy bills.
  • Wash clothes in cold: Cold cycles clean just as well and eliminate 90% of the washing machine's energy use.
  • Air-dry laundry: Hang clothes on a drying rack instead of using a high-energy clothes dryer.
  • Fix household leaks: Repair dripping faucets instantly to save thousands of gallons of water annually.
Güneş's team Malatya Bilsem:

Deepening Sustainability: Beyond the BasicsMindful Consumption: Sustainability is about shifting from "fast" to "thoughtful." This means prioritizing durability over trends. When you choose high-quality items—whether clothing or electronics—you prevent premature waste. Embracing the second-hand economy for books, furniture, or clothes significantly reduces the resources needed for new production. Resource Efficiency: Small upgrades create large, long-term savings. Switching to energy-efficient appliances, installing low-flow water fixtures, and practicing "digital hygiene" (deleting old data and cloud storage) helps lower the energy demand of global infrastructure.Sustainable Nutrition: Adopting a "Zero-Waste Kitchen" mindset is transformative. This involves meal planning to avoid food waste, composting organic scraps to create fertilizer for plants, and shifting toward seasonal, plant-forward meals to reduce the intensive water and land use required for livestock.Community Impact: Sustainability is also social. By supporting local farmers’ markets and sharing knowledge within your school or community, you help build a circular economy. Teaching others—especially your students—the value of these habits turns individual action into a collective movement.

Esma's team Malatya Bilsem:

Sustainable Living in a NutshellLiving sustainably starts with small daily choices. Instead of buying too many things, try choosing products that are durable and truly necessary. Avoiding single-use plastics can also make a big difference for the environment. At home, saving energy is easier than we think — using LED bulbs, unplugging electronics when they are not in use, and adjusting heating or cooling wisely can reduce energy waste. Our eating habits matter too. Choosing local and seasonal foods and eating more plant-based meals can help protect nature and support healthier lifestyles. When possible, walking, cycling, or using public transportation instead of driving helps reduce pollution and keeps us active. Finally, we can create less waste by composting food scraps, recycling correctly, and repairing items instead of throwing them away. Small actions by many people can lead to a healthier planet for everyone.

Zuhal's team Malatya Bilsem: We should carry reusable bags, bottles, and containers to cut down single‑use plastics. We should switch off lights and unplug electronics when not in use. We should fix dripping taps and avoid wasting water. We should compost food scraps or at least separate organic waste. We should use recylcilling effectively

To make sustainable living even more achievable by: Transportation Stay active: Walk or bike for short distances. Go public: Use buses, trains, or carpool options. Fly less: Choose trains or direct flights when possible. Waste Management Ditch plastic: Switch to reusables instead of single-use items. Fix it: Repair or repurpose items instead of tossing them. Save water: Take shorter showers and fix leaky faucets.

Cansel Satış's team Taşkesti Ortaokulu:

1. Reducing waste • Reduce plastic use • Recycle • Avoid single-use products 💧 2. Saving water and energy • Turn off unnecessary lights • Take shorter showers • Use energy-efficient products 🥗 3. Natural and local consumption • Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables • Support local producers • Reduce processed foods 🚶‍♀️ 4. Transportation choices • Walk or use a bicycle • Prefer public transportation 👕 5. Consuming less • Avoid unnecessary shopping • Use long-lasting products

  • Reduce waste – We can reduce waste by reusing things, recycling, and throwing away less.
  • Save energy – We can save energy by turning off lights and electronics when we do not use them.
  • Use less water – We can use less water by taking shorter showers and not leaving the tap running.
  • Choose eco-friendly transport – We can protect the environment by walking, cycling, or using public transport instead of cars.
  • Eat more sustainable food – We can eat more sustainable food by choosing local, seasonal foods and eating less food that harms the environment.

Why I chose this answer:
We think that the main factor to save the planet and maintan sustainability starts in people's minds. So we need to create awareness in people about how to use natural resources and earth surronding them (Cansel's team - Taşkesti Ortaokulu)

Describe the problem you are going to solve and, above all,the reason why your idea is interesting

The Problem Traditional transportation relies heavily on private cars, which are major contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions and urban traffic congestion. Most daily commutes consist of single-occupancy vehicles driving short distances. This inefficiency wastes non-renewable fossil fuels, lowers local air quality, and causes immense mental stress for drivers stuck in gridlock. Why This Idea is Interesting Instead of demanding a total lifestyle overhaul, this approach reframes public transit as a modern, tech-driven life hack. By combining digital route optimization, automated contactless payments, and micro-mobility (like e-bikes or scooters) for the first and last mile, public transit becomes faster and more reliable than driving. It transforms wasted commute time into productive personal time while effortlessly cutting costs and carbon emissions. [1, 2] What would you like to develop next in this format:

  • A concrete action plan to implement this system
  • A breakdown of the financial savings involved
  • A list of tech tools needed to make it work

Describe the problem you are going to solve and, above all,the reason why your idea is interesting

Your Answer:Problem description The problem we want to solve is waste pollution. Too much waste pollutes our planet and harms animals and nature. Plastic, cans, and other rubbish often end up in the environment, where they can damage ecosystems and take many years to disappear. We think this problem is important because everyone produces waste every day. In Hungary, there are already several solutions that help reduce waste. There are selective waste collection bins in many places, and in villages a selective garbage truck collects recyclable waste every week. In addition, there is a 50 Ft deposit system for plastic bottles and aluminium cans. People can take these bottles back to special RE-pont machines and get the deposit back on their credit card. They can also choose to donate the money to a charity organization. This system encourages recycling and helps promote a more sustainable lifestyle. (Eszti's team - HUN)
