  • In 1970 Katherine helped Apollo 13 return safely to earth after a malfunction occurred in space
  • In her town, the educational system didn’t offer much for black children, so her family moved to West Virginia Katherine attended high school there, she studied hard and graduated at the age of 18
  • She retired in 1986 and died years old
