Broken Communication
The phone represents the promise of conversation and connection, but often times results in emotional distress instead of understanding or communication. The idea of my poster and utopia is to pose the question "What if we organized life so this kind of harm was less likely to happen?".
Broken Promises
The tears symbolize the emotional consequences of broken promises within an existing social system. Many aspects of our society offer promises of connection fulfillment and understanding but they repeatedly deliver dissatisfaction and disappointment. The goal of my utopia would be to conver these negative products of other systems and use them as a catalyst that brings people to see the need for community, cooperation, and care.
The Question
The question "What if it didn't have to be this way?" is a moment where once stops accepting what is and looks to what could be. Utopian thinking starts when existing conditions become intolerable and the individual looks for a new way of life in communities. By asking the question indivuals open themselves to the possibility of alternative ways of living, communities, and collectives.
