Introduction

I will explain what linguistics is and show its main braches. This topic is very useful for students and teachers because it helps us understand how language works.

Is called LINGUISTICS

Studies how language works, how we use it and how changes over time

Syntax

Semantics and pragmatics

Phonetics studies the sounds of speech. Phonology studies how sounds work in language. For example, in English the sounds /b/ and /v/ can change the meaning of words.

Semantics studies meaning. Pragmatics studies meaning in context. For example, Can you open the window? is a polite request

Syntax studies how words are organized in a sentence. For example: She reads a book.

Morphology studies the structure of words. For example, the word unhappy has two parts: un- and happy.

Conclusions

It helps us to understand how sounds, words, sentences and meadnings are connected.

This knowledge is very important for teachers and students. Linguistics plays an important role in education.

We can comunicate better and learn languages more easily.
