1. FIRST AID – Basic Emergency Care

FIRST AID

What is First Aid?

First aid is the immediate help given to an injured or suddenly injured person before professional medical assistance arrives.

First Aid Kit (Essential Items)

  • Sterile gauze and bandages
  • Disposable gloves
  • CPR mask

P.A.S.

P - Protect: Ensure that the area is safe. A - Alert: call emergency services. S - Support (Assist): Help the injured person.

Recovery Position

  • If the person is unconscious but breathing.
  • Keeps the airways open and prevents drowning.
  • Place the person on his side with his head tilted back.

2. HOW TO DEAL WITH AN ACCIDENT

Steps
  1. Ensure safety
  2. Check consciousness
  3. Check breathing
  4. Call emergency services
  5. Provide help

If the Person Is NOT Breathing (CPR)

If the Person Is Breathing

CPR Steps

  1. Call emergency number
  2. Start chest compressions (30 compressions)
  3. Give 2 rescue breaths
  4. Continue 30:2 cycle until help arrives

  • Place in recovery position
  • Monitor breathing
  • Wait for emergency services

3. COMPLETE AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION (ASPHYXIA)

Phases Mild obstruction: person can cough → encourage coughing Severe obstruction: cannot breathe or speak → immediate action
Abdominal Thrust (Heimlich Maneuver)
  1. Stand behind the person
  2. Place fist above the navel
  3. Grab fist with other hand
  4. Push inward and upward repeatedly
  5. Continue until object comes out

4. BLEEDING – HEMORRHAGE

Treating an Open WoundWash hands Clean wound with water Apply antiseptic Cover with sterile bandage
