THE REAL THING

They say we’re getting closer to a real invisibility cloak. It’s not ready yet, But it will be, someday soon. Would you want one? Would you try it out at the store, beg for one for your birthday, put it on your wish list? The first ones for sale will be really expensive. But they’ll come down in price a bit at a time until maybe you could save (allowance, babysitting, lawn mowing) for the basic model – IC 100, which doesn't quite cover your shoes.

It wouldn’t take long before lots of people had them. There would be rules about not bringing them to school. New sports leagues! IC basketball. IC soccer. It sounds like “I see,” but of course, you wouldn't, except for odd ripples: the ghost of a thumb, a flicker of cleats, an eyebrow floating in midair.

A) According to the poem, why might someone want an invisibility cloak?

Reveal Explainer

I will read between the lines of the poem to understand why someone might want an invisibility cloak. The poem suggests people are excited about it and really want one, because they might “try it out at the store, beg for one for their birthday, or put it on (their) wish list.” This shows that someone might want an invisibility cloak because it seems fun, exciting, and something worth having.
