Mish takes a step closer,my arm stays high. I should trust him, he’s my cousin, was once my best friend. We were inseparable until fourteen moons ago when he was chosen for the hunt instead of me.
I swallow the jealous pang
that rises up my throat.
I’m better with a spear,
faster,
stronger,
less likely to trip over my own feet.
Unlike him,
lumbering and awkward.
It wasn’t fair.
Mish knew joining the hunt was all I dreamed of. But still he argued that he should go instead, that I was better off at home.

put everyone at risk, put Solas at risk,
and so the prophecy too?
Barik had agreed.
So had my father.
Please, Fia, stop being so stubborn.
