Writing - What is an opinion paragraph?
What is an opinion? An opinion is something you believe, think, or feel.
Example: Our family needs a dog.
Opinions are different than facts. A fact is something you can prove.
Example: Labrador Retrievers are the most popular dogs in the country.
People write opinion paragraphs to share their opinions about a certain topic. Let’s take a look at an example below.
A Family Dog
Our family needs a dog. First, a dog would provide hours of entertainment. Imagine all the fun we would have walking him and playing with him in the yard. Having a dog would also teach us kids some responsibility. We would feed him and make sure his water bowl was always full. We would make sure he gets exercise every day. Getting a dog would bring our family closer together.
The topic sentence states the topic (opinion).
The body sentences give reasons to support the opinion.
The closing sentence tells why the reader should agree.
Think about something that you think you need or that your family needs. You will be writing a paragraph explaining why you or your family needs it.
We will be brainstorming our ideas today. Click on the Download button to view your graphic organizer.
