  • WWI hero Benjamin Kaufman captured a machine-gun nest single-handedly. Despite a shattered arm, he used grenades and an empty pistol to take the gun and a prisoner.
  • He ranked Private in the U.S. army.
  • This soldier, took the gun of a sick comrade, went into the fight, and when the color bearers were shot down, carried the colors and saved them from capture.
  • He ranked Sergeant Major in the U.S. army.
  • During Battle of the Wilderness, under heavy fire, disorganized and fleeing troops of different regiments. At Petersburg, Va. 30 July 1864, bravely and coolly carried orders to the advanced line under severe fire.

  • He ranked Capitian in the U.S.army.
  • On March 9, 1968, in Vietnam, Jacobs ignored severe head wounds to take command of a pinned-down unit, single handedly repelled three enemy squads, and repeatedly braved intense fire to rescue 14 wounded men.
  • He ranked Sergeant in the U.S. army.
  • During the 1864 Battle of the Wilderness, Sergeant Leopold Karpeles saved his retreating unit by holding up the flag to regroup his men and stop the enemy.
  • He ranked Capiton in the U.S. army.
  • After four men were killed while manning a machine gun, Captain Salomon took control of it. When his body was later found, 98 dead enemy soldiers were piled in front of his position.
  • He ranked Second Lieutenant in the U.S. army.
  • 2d Lt. Raymond Zussman earned the Medal of Honor by leading a tank attack on foot with only a carbine, single-handedly neutralizing 110 enemy combatants in one evening
  • He ranked Private in the U.S. army.
  • Civil War soldier David Urbansky earned the Medal of Honor for bravery at Shiloh and Vicksburg. One of few Jewish Union recipients, he famously rescued his commander under fire.
