WE PROTECT ECOSYSTEMS
What is an ecosystem?
It is a community of living things that live together in a particular place and the relationships between them. They are essential for life in Earth.

AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS
- These are ecosystem in water. They cover a lot of the Earth´s surface.
- The factors that affect them are the sunlight, the temperature and the amount of salt.
FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEMS
SALTWATER ECOSYSTEMS
The water in this ecosystem has very little salt. It can be used for watering crops and for drinking water. They are classified by the movement of the water:

What is biodiversity?
It is the variety of living things on Earth. We do not know for certain the total number of different species of living things. We know about more than 2 million but there are many more. Biodiversity is not the same all around the world. The most biodiversity ecosystems are rainforests and coral reefs. They are home to about half of all the species of the Earth.
What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity has many benefits for people:
It is a source of fun and enjoyment.
It provides energy sources.
It provides raw materials and food.
It helps to regulate humidity and it keeps water clean.
The loss of biodiversity
When a species of living things disappears from a place is loss of biodiversity. The disappearance of a species is called extinction. Extinction can occur in a region or country. When it occurs around the whole world the species disappears forever.
The main CAUSES of extinction
Hunting and overfishing
Destruction
Pollution
Can be caused by fires, construction work, farming...
Pollution of the water, land or air can harm the place where a species lives and on which it depends
When there is too much can reduce the population of the species.
How can we look after ecosystems?
Most of our daily activities affect ecosystems. We can all take actions toreduce their effects.
The responsabilities of the authorities
People's responsibilities
All of us must help to protect ecosystems:
The goverment and the autonomous communities must protect ecosystems. Here are some ways: -Collecting different types of waste. -Prevent and fight forest fires. -Approve and supervise work that can affect ecosystems. - They identify endangered species that need protection. -They create laws to limit hunting, fishing,construction...
Save water
Recycle waste
Save energy
Respect nature
HUMIDITY
Humidity mainly depends on the amount of rain in an area.
- Animals and plants need humidity.
- Life is richer in areas where there ir more humidity.
RELIEF
Relief is the shape of the land. - The land can be flat or steep.
- When the relief is steep, it is difficult for plants to grow roots and for some animals to move around.
TEMPERATURE
Is highest at the Equator.
- The temperature falls as we move towards the poles.
- When the temperatura is very low, water freezes and plants cannot grow.
SOIL
Soil is the layer of the ground where plants grow roots.
- Plants take in water and mineral salts from the soil.
- Some soils are deeper and more fertile than others. Plants grow better in tese soils.
- There is less vegetation in areas with little soil.
