The geography, the trade and the coins
- The Geography: Greece was (and is) a plece with a lot of mountains. But it was (and is) located next to the mediterranean sea (the balkan sea).
- The Trade: They traded by boats stopping in different ports of the mediterranean sea, because it was more easy.
- The Coins: They've invented a coin to trade easier called dchrama.
The urban anDPolitical Structure
An independent city or state in Ancient Greece was called Polis.
- Main parts of a Polis: - The Urban Centre
- Chora: The chora was a rural place for farming.- Acropolis: The acropolis was a fortified wall for protect the Polis of posible attacks. - Agora: The agora was the principal square of the Polis and was used for trade and social and political reasons.
Society and governance:Athens and Sparta
- Athens: There was a direct democracy, so they've invented the Eklesia, the room where they debated and voted.
- Sparta: It was a military state. The spartans were focus in the war, and the agricultury was made by the Helots, that they were a class of people that live in a state without political rights.
The rise of macedonia and the hellenistic era
The king Phillip II developed the Macedonian Phalanx (the macedonian army). This army allowed him to conquer the Greek poleis. Then, Alexander expanded to Asia and Africa; and Alexander was educated by Aristotle, not by her father, Philip II.After the death of Alexander, it begans the Hellenistic era. Alexandria, in Egypt, became the cultural capital with the Great Library and the Lighthouse.
Culture, Myths And Thought
The Greek people were very cultural. The literature began with Homer, a poet that wrote the Iliad and the Odissey. Their mythology was the Minoan, in the island of Crete, and the Minotaur, in Labyrinth. The philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, had a tradition of explaining some myths.
