Maya
Mission 1 Maya
You are Maya teacher from last year. How would you appraoch her? 1/4
Maya tells you that she is fine & that nothing is different from last year. As you gently ask more questions, you can see that she’s stressed & upset, making it clear she doesn’t want to have the conversation.
Nothing seems to change for Maya as the semester continues. She still doesn’t seem like herself. She stopped attending after school choir and spends most afternoons watching her brother play video games. She seems really jumpy & overreacts to almost any loud noise. She looks tired, as if she’s not sleeping enough.
2/4
A student stops you in the hallway one morning to tell you that Maya is freaking out in the cafeteria. You rush in to see a group of students staring at Maya in the corner of the cafeteria, rocking back & forth with her hands covering her ears.
When you ask the student “What happened?” the student responds that “she just started screaming after the dismissal bell rang. A couple of boys were running around & slammed the cafeteria exit door, but nothing unusual was going on.
Question 3/4
Maya
Maya is 8-years old. You’ve known Maya for years. She has a normal number of friends, has goods grades & is involved in the choir. Maya gets along well with her friends, teachers & parents.
Over the summer, you heard that Maya was involved in a serious car accident with her Dad & older brother. Everyone healed well, but Maya doesn’t seem like herself. She is less interested in things, but she still makes good grades. You notice however, that she is a bit more emotional & that you don’t see her with friends; she only wants to be around her brother.
