Tourism in the Lake District
The Lake District is a national park in the north west of England. It's famous for its beautiful lakes, forests and mountains, and about 17 million tourists travel there every year. Visitors to the Lake District can enjoy different types of tourism.
Beach tourism: There aren't any big beach in the Lake District. But there are beautiful beaches. Visitors can sometimes see seals and dolphins swimming there.

Rural Tourism: The Lake District is a great holiday destination for people who love being outdoors. There are lots of walking and cycling , so it's easy to explore. In Grizedale Forest vsitors can also see more than 50 pieces of modern art on the trails.
Adventure tourism: The mountains are perfect for sport like rock climbing and caving, and visitors can do lots of water sports on the lakes. Tourists who love extreme sports can also go white water tubing in the mountains. It's fast and very exciting!
Cultural tourism: There are more than 300 cultural attractions in the Lake District. Tourists can visit museums and art galleries, and they can explore castles and ancient monuments. There are traditional festivals in the villages too. Some of these are very original!
: The Lake District is an area of natural beauty and people work hard to protect the environment and the local culture. Visitors can stay in cabins where they can also buy local food and in the shops.

- Going shopping? Don’t forget your re-usable bag! Humans use lots of unnecessary plastic every year. Take a backpack or bag and say no to plastic.
- Help the planet – maybe the local community organises activities and you can help out. Is there a clean-up? Or a chance to pick up ? Do your part!
