An analysis of White House Press Releases, and Media Coverage from January 20st-24th 2026

*Note: This is not a reflection of my own Political Beliefs, it is an analysis of the White House Press Releases from 01/20/26-01/24/26

ANGLE ANALYSIS

During my research, I noticed that the Executive Branch Press Releases from the 20th to the 24th were focused on the current President Donald Trump, and that, since his inauguration a year ago, he has been a peaceful, helpful, and reform-forward President.

FOX News claims to support Trump's Pro-Life Policy, as well as his Foriegn Policy Regarding the Board of Peace

FOX News also supports his law-reform, and agrees that Trump has accomplished lots in his first year back in office.

Liberal Media Reports...

The National Public Radio, or NPR, reports, "In his first year back in the White House, President Trump has presided over a sweeping expansion of executive power while eroding democratic norms" (NPR Staff). NPR reports an unprecedented push towards authoritarianism and writes opposing lots of Trump's policies and Actions. The NPR staff claim that in the past year of Trump's Presidency, he has stretched his executive power unlawfully, he has implemented tariffs and expanded the power of his authority, and demolished and created entire federal government departments. NPR also claims that Trump has restricted freedom of speech, as well as began changing Public Health and Science research.

Liberal Media Reports...

The Guardian claims, "With Donald Trump back in office for a year, it seems increasingly clear what his motto should be: “Who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?” Whether about grocery prices, January 6, Ukraine or actions by ICE agents, Trump keeps making astonishingly false statements that contradict what we can see with our own eyes" (Greenhouse). The Guardian reports that President Trump over the course of this past year, has been lying to American citizens. Whether its about inflation or conflict overseas, The Guardian holds the view that President Donald Trump makes consistently, wildly inaccurate statements publicly. Journalist Steven Greenhouse says, "Trump often seems to be following the “big lie” strategy the Nazis used during the 1930s. Keep telling and retelling big lies in the hope that people will eventually believe them".

So What is Liberal Media saying?

NPR claims that Donald Trump's second Presidency is headed towards authoritarianism, and claims Trump is attempting and succeeding at restricting certain rights and freedoms.

NPR and The Guardian do not support the claims made by the White House Press Releases , and report opposing information.

The Guardian reports that President Trump and his DOJ consistently lie to the American People, and are trying to counteract his spread of misinformation.

International Media: Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera is a Qatar-based global media network. Louis Charbonneau, a UN director and Writer for Al Jazeera, wrote an article about President Trump's Board of Peace. Charbonneau writes, "the Trump administration has been working hard to undermine the United Nations, especially the UN’s efforts to uphold universal human rights". Charbonneau states that President Trump is creating a new 'Board of Peace', with himself in the center as 'lifetime chairman'. Louis Charbonneau also reports further into his article, "Trump’s board appears to be a kind of pay-to-play, global club, judging from the $1 billion fee for permanent membership". Charbonneau continues, "With several notorious human rights abusers and leaders implicated in war crimes – and few countervailing voices – it is hard to imagine this body giving priority to ending suffering".

International Media Continued: Al Jareeza

Writer Simon Speakman Cordall wrote an article titled, "‘The end of the world as we know it’: Is the rules-based order finished?" Cordall claims the U.S. government's actions over the past year have caused an end to the order we saw created after the end of World War 2. Cordall says, "In the last few weeks, the United States, whose military and financial heft underpinned much of that order, has invaded Venezuela, has threatened to invade the European territory of Greenland, and has promised to levy tariffs on any of the Western allies that might oppose it". Cordall continues, "The actions of Trump and his administration have forced lawmakers across Europe and the West to confront their reliance upon the US and weigh the difficulties of confronting the world’s most significant superpower".

So What is International Media saying?

Al Jazeera is seemingly critical of the actions and behaviors of the current administration politically and economically. It does not mention President Trump's "crack down' on crime, or his Pro-Life Policies.

Al Jazeera makes claims directly opposing the White House Press releases. These two publications view President Trump's actions over the past year very differently.

Opinion Pieces from the publication seem to have differing stances when it comes to the U.S. benefits of Donald Trump's second presidency.

Similarities and Differences between U.S and International Coverage

Similarities

• Negative Coverage: Over two-thirds of the national and international news involving President Donald Trump reports negative news headlines
• Theme or Topics Covered: National and International media reports similarly in this topics of choice. (ex: Immigration, economics, and trade)
• Volume: There is a significant volume of coverage of President Trump, both nationally and internationally.

Differences

• Conservative Media: Conservative Media outlets are more supportive in their coverage of President Trump and his policies. Liberal Media and International media tend to be critical of the current President and his policies
• US Media vs. International Media: The US Media focuses more on "horse-race" headlines and scandals, while international media coverage focuses on President Trump's "general fitness" for office.

Who is setting this Agenda, and Why?

Why?

When groups or induviduals want to influence a political agenda, they use lobbying tactics to influence legislation, national policy. When a political group controls Congress, Bureaucrats and has donations from Interest groups, they can influence policiy and immensly benefit.

"Congress members are responsible for developing policy solutions and translating those solutions into legislation. Policy ideas often come directly from legislators and represent ideas or issues that are important to them and their constituency" (Maricopa)

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, "lobbying groups spend upwards of $3 billion a year to influence public policy". They take a reactive approach to policy makers, and try and convince policy makers to embrace certain issues for their agendas.

Non-elected government officials have major influence on setting policy agenda's. Maricopa says, "it is estimated that nearly 90% of law is created by administrative rules issued by federal or even state agencies". For example, National Traffic Agencies adminster research on driver safety, which then impacts policies on driving.
