Paragraph - building

*controlling idea, the topic of your writing orand you opinion about it. The controlling idea limits your topic to one or two areas you develop in your paragraph.

Topic sentence= foundation of the building

*facts - examples - statistics - quote. These sentences help your audience understand more about your main idea. They're specific, focused, logically-ordered and support the topic sentence.

Supporting senteces = walls

*in brief, in short, in conclusion. It says the same things as your topic sentence, but in different words.

Concluding sentences+ roof

When you have more than 2 paragraphs

If you need two or more paragraphs, organize your main idea into two or three smaller ideas. Put the details you want to support that main idea underneath each smaller idea.

To ensure the text is coherent and unified, we should link paragraphs together with the concluding sentence of the first paragraph and the topic sentence of the next paragraph.
