The Cosmos cement factory in Fátima is a cement plant in Córdoba that has been operating for almost 100 years. It started to be built at the end of the 1920s and opened in the 1930s, when the city needed materials to build roads, buildings and new neighbourhoods.For many years it was very important for Córdoba because it provided jobs for many families and its cement was used in construction projects all around the province. At that time, the factory was on the outskirts of the city, close to quarries where the stone needed to make cement was extracted. Over time, the city grew and the Fátima neighbourhood was built around the factory. This caused problems, because dust, noise and pollution started to affect the people living nearby, and many residents began to complain and ask for changes.
Today, the cement factory is still open, but it produces less than before because there is less construction in Spain. It is now both a part of Córdoba’s history and a place that creates debate between those who want to keep it for its historical and economic value and those who think it should change to better fit into the city.

The Cosmos cement factory is in the Fátima neighborhood in Córdoba, in the south of the city. It used to be on the outskirts, near limestone quarries, because they needed the stone to make cement. It used to be a more empty area with quarries around, and now the neighborhood has grown around it.
