Learning Objectives

  • Understand the process of normal insulin function including release and binding to cells
  • Coherence and Clarity: The coherence of the content and the clarity in the presentation of ideas will be valued, ensuring that the message is easily understandable for the target audience.
  • Objective Fulfillment: The extent to which the project meets the established objectives will be evaluated, demonstrating the understanding and application of the concepts and skills worked on during thelearning situation.

Normal Insulin Process

  • After having a meal, the carbohydrates are digested and broken down by enzymes
  • Glucose is the main monosaccharide produced
  • In the small intestines, glucose is absrobed by microvilli cells lining the epithelium via SGLT1 transporters
  • Glucose can then enter the blood stream from these cells via GLUT2 transporters

The hormone insulin then begins its journey through Adamโ€™s bloodstream like a messenger.Insulin targets muscle and fat tissue. These cells have insulin receptors- only opens when insulin arrives Insulin binds and triggers signaling pathways inside the cell This causes GLUT4 transporters to move to cell surface

In the Pancreas

  • Blood glucose levels increase and is detected by the pacreas where there are clusters of cells called islets of Langerhans
  • These contain B cells which priduce insulin (and a cellswhich produce glucagon
  • The b cells detect the increase in blood glucose levels and release insulin into the bloodstream in response
  • Insulin has 3 main target cells

Liver

Adipose Tissue

Skeletal Muscle

Insulin and the Liver

  • Insulin in the portal system reaches the liver
  • Insulin binds to receptors on liver cells and glusoce enters via GLUT2 transporters
  • 50-60% of insulin is used in the liver for storage of glucise via
  • Insulin inhibits glyc

Planning activity

Let's go, Team! ๐ŸŒŸ It's time for our next mission: planning. ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธโœ๏ธ Think of planning as the GPS of our adventure. It helps us know which path to take and how to reach our destination. In this activity, we will organize our steps for this unit, like explorers organizing their route. Understanding what we are going to do and how we will organize ourselves is essential. This will not only lead us to success in our lessons, but it will also teach you how to plan for everything you do. Ready to draw the map of our adventure together? Go ahead!๐Ÿš€

Chapter 2:Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

As usual, carbohydrates are digested and glucose is absorbed into the blood stream. this causes and increase in blood glucose levels

after carbohydrates are digested, glucose enters the blood stream. Once it reached the pancreas it is detected

Correct!

Entry of new information

In those with Type 1 Diabetes, Beta cells are destroyed due to an immune mediated response

Alpha Cells are not destroyed in Type 1 Diabetes

Answer Again

next

This leads to a decresed number of b cells means little to no insulin is prodcuced โ€‹ This causes a build up of glucose in blood streamโ€‹

Activity of development II

Entry of new information

In this phase, we immerse ourselves in the exploration of new concepts and relevant data. Get ready to absorb key information and reflect on its meaning and application in our task. It's time to expand our cognitive horizons!

Development activity III

Attention team! ๐ŸŒˆ Now that we have our map and know where we are heading, it's time to dive into the heart of our adventure: the development activities. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ During this stage, we are going to discover new content and practice skills that will be fundamental to achieve our great goal: the final product we are creating. Every piece of information is a tool that we add to our toolbox to help us build that product at the end of the road. That's why it's important to be very attentive and take advantage of every moment to learn and grow. Are you ready to enter this phase of exploration, discovery, and construction? Let's go for it! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ก

Synthesis activity

We're almost there, Team! ๐ŸŒŸ It's time for synthesis.๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“š After all we've learned and practiced, it's time to bring together our knowledge and skills to bring our final product to life. Let's combine everything we know and can do into a creation that we can showcase, exhibit, and share. This stage is crucial: it's when everything makes sense and we see how each piece of the puzzle fits into place. Let's organize our ideas, polish our work, and prepare them for the big moment. Ready to put all your effort and creativity into this final phase? It's time to shine and show the world what we're capable of! Let's get to work, team!๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ซ

Evaluation activity

Great job, Team! ๐ŸŒˆ Now that we've created something amazing together, it's time to reflect. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’กThis final stage is as important as the previous ones: evaluation and metacognition. It's our time to become detectives of our own learning, exploring not only what we've learned, but how we've done it. Let's ask some key questions: What new things did we discover? How did we face the challenges during this journey? And most excitingly, where can we apply all this that we've learned in the future? This reflection helps us better understand our learning process, makes us more aware of our skills, and prepares us to use this knowledge in new adventures. Ready for this final mission of self-exploration and future planning? It's time to look back so we can move forward with more strength! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ“˜
