Message from the Headmaster
Dear Parents,
I met with the Abbot President of the English Benedictine Congregation and fellow Benedictine Heads from England and Ireland on Monday. This is always a warm interaction and an important opportunity to keep our Benedictine charism central to our schools.
Sara and I were bowled over by the performance of our pupils in Beauty and the Beast yesterday evening; it was terrific in every way. The orchestra was exceptional, and the sound, lighting and stage management ran perfectly. The acting was first class. A fitting show in our year of the Theatre with pupils from Years 7 through to 13 involved.
I was pleased to be invited to meet parents at Terrington Hall on Thursday morning along with Mrs Dent and two of our pupils who were Terrington alumni. It was lovely to hear our pupils talk so positively and authentically about their experience of life at Ampleforth. We welcome nearly 40 Farleigh prep school pupils - and even more of their parents - to the Valley for a long weekend of activities and are look forward to showing our distinctive Benedictine hospitality. It is also the Year 11 Parents' Weekend; an important moment to discuss the results of the the recent trial GCSE examinations and what lies ahead. I look forward to seeing parents either at breakfast tomorrow morning in my study or around the Valley throughout the weekend. Best wishes,
Jon
Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast is here! 🎭 We are incredibly excited to present Disney's Beauty and the Beast this week in Ampleforth College Theatre. The cast and crew have been preparing for this for the past few months, and the result of their efforts is a fantastic, humorous and emotional play that is one of the best we have seen at Ampleforth. We caught up with the cast before the opening night, you can watch the videos on our Instagram, or by tapping the photos on the right.
New Lacrosse Coach
It has been fantastic to welcome our new Lacrosse Coach, India Chadwick, to the College. Learn more about India, what she hopes to achieve at Ampleforth, and how Lacrosse is going so far in the Valley at the link on the right.
Cross Country v OAs
The Corbould Cup took place over the weekend, where our current Cross Country team competes against Old Amplefordians. The brisk winter day provided the perfect conditions for the event, with Amplefordians racing through the Valley, students cheering on one another and families joining to support. Congratulations to the Old Amplefordian's who took the victory this year, and congratulations to Olivia Bellamy on being the 1st current Ampleforth student across the finish line.
Equestrian Success in Epworth
The Ampleforth Equestrian Team continued their run of successes at the weekend at Epworth Equestrian Centre. This weekend’s team were taking part in the NSEA Eventers Challenge. Jumping a course of Show Jumps followed by a course of Cross Country fences within an optimum time.
Both Olivia (10M) and Elizabeth (10M) were competing in the 80cm Class – both girls jumping lovely clear rounds over the two sections of the courses. Olivia finishing 4th overall, to qualify for the finals at Hickstead in May.
Olivia then went on to win the 90cm class, taking home a second qualification for the day, with the team of Olivia, Elizabeth, Annabelle (12A) and Poppy (10A) taking home the team qualification for Hickstead.
Boys 1st XI Hockey v Yarm
🏑 Congratulations to the 1st XI for progressing to the next round of the T2 National Competition! The boys secured a narrow win vs Hill House in a closely fought contest in Ilkley. Well done to the whole squad on their efforts this afternoon!
Football 1st XI v Stonyhurst
A thrilling Saturday afternoon of Football as we welcomed Stonyhurst College to the Valley in two friendly fixtures against our 1st and 2nd XI teams.
The 1st XI earned a hard-fought 5-4 victory in a match where momentum swung back and forth throughout. While our 2nd XI put up a fantastic fight to concede a 4-2 loss.
Their strong performance in only their second match of the season, with a disciplined defence and a well-managed midfield, is a testament to the strength of the coaching and sporting culture at Ampleforth. A superb afternoon of Football and results both teams can be proud of!
Message from Mrs Dent
Well, it's 'SHOW WEEK' and the culmination of months of work of hard work for the cast and crew. All at Aidan's HQ are immensely proud to have so many of the house involved in the production of Beauty and the Beast, and also the impressive levels of commitment and resilience the girls have shown in juggling their daily school lives with hours and hours of rehearsal each week. All of this comes on top of many also being in the Schola, with the significant commitment that also involves. Those who have already seen it have returned with rave reviews, with many more of us looking forward to performances tonight and tomorrow - and here's a sneak peek of our 'Belle', Emilia, in 'the dress'. Very good of the creators to concieve the image in St Aidan's house colours!! It was wonderful to catch up with Year 10 parents last weekend and we're looking forward to doing so with parents of Yr11 this weekend too, as we work together to bring about the best possible academic outcomes for the girls. Hattie (Yr13 and an Old Terringtonian) and I had a good trip out to Terrington Hall early on Thursday morning, to meet with staff and parents there. As one of the Deputy Heads of School, Hattie is a fantastic ambassador for the college and spoke with great confidence and warmth of her time at both schools. I was proud to be there alongside her. Congratulations to Year 9 and 10, who were victorious in last Saturday's Inter-house netball challenge for the 'Inters'. It was great also to have Sophie (Yr13) represent the house in the student vs OA Cross Country fixture. As we head out of January and into February, there's much to work towards in these final days before the half term break. Here's wishing you all a good week ahead.

Flora, Annabelle and Celia got out and about with fellow students on their Countryside Management course, including a visit to the 'Yorkshore Heart' vineyard. It's always fantastic to gain a feel of the wider St Aidan's community, especially when current members of the house get to meet the women who's photographs adorn the corridors of the house. Special then, to have current Year 12 Sophie, running alongside OA (both Ampleforth and Aidan's) Lucinda (Aidan's '05 leaver) last weekend.
A reminder that if you'd like to keep up with the goings on of the House and girls, then do find us on social media. Please do also feel free to drop me line with news or pictures of interesting or note-worthy things the girls have been up to in the holidays. It's always nice to share their experience more widely on these pages to celebrate the many gifts and achievements of the girls.

We were lucky to have a very discerning audience here in St Margaret’s House, and I am pleased to report that the unanimous verdict was that it was “amazing”. Summary of the week
It’s been another lively and energetic week in Junior House, filled with teamwork, competition, and plenty of enthusiasm from our pupils. We’ve enjoyed a great range of competitive fixtures, with pupils showing superb commitment and house spirit throughout. The U13A girls away fixture at rydale on Thursday was successful with a 15-13 win.Looking ahead to this coming weekend, our boarders can look forward to two exciting events: a Traitors-themed evening in-house on Saturday night, full of suspense and strategy, as well as a shopping outing on Sunday after mass which is always a highlight! Both promise to offer plenty of fun and a chance for our young people to unwind together. We hope you enjoy looking through everything Junior House has been up to this week, and we look forward to sharing more adventures with you soon.

Australia Day💚💛
GAP year student Miss Handke celebrated Australia day with the EWs on Monday morning by playing some Australian songs and wearing an Australian fly hat during breakfast. George T, Oscar and Cleo got to try it on before their full day of musical practice. And of course there was lots of "Noo Cleoo" in an Australian accent that morning.

We were delighted with Sabine's superb contribution to the Junior Band and String Orchestra last term as well as her dedication to private practice. She attended all rehearsals and was there ready to play with enthusiasm. She is a great ambassador for music in Junior House. Well done, Sabine
