-- En disoluciones diluidas de ácido ataca a metales activos (que pierden fácilmente electrones), como el cinc o el magnesio, desprendiendo hidrógeno. - En disoluciones concentradas actúa sobre metales nobles, como el cobre y la plata, produciendo monóxido de nitrógeno o dióxido de nitrógeno, según el grado de concentración: -Disolución poco concentrada. -Disolución muy concentrada. - Cuando el ácido ataca a metales como el aluminio o el cromo, se genera en la superficie de estos una capa de óxido que les impide continuar oxidándose. Este fenómeno se conoce como pasivación.
