La invasión francesa de España comienza en 1808, cuando Napoleón impone a su hermano José Bonaparte como rey. El 2 de mayo de 1808, el pueblo de Madrid se rebela, iniciando la Guerra de la Independencia.
El ejército y las guerrillas resisten a los franceses, con ayuda del Reino Unido. Tras una guerra larga y violenta, las tropas francesas abandonan España, símbolo de la defensa de la libertad y la nación.

En el cuadro, los madrilenos se opusieron a las tropas de Napoléon y los mamelucos.
Durante la batalla, los espanoles atacaron con dagas. El realismo esta presente porque
hay un soldado que esté muerto en el suelo y vemos sangre. Es una pintura historica
que cuenta la lucha de los espanoles y madrilenos contra los franceces que paso el
dos de mayo de 1808.
Patriotas:
Durante la guerra, los españoles se dividieron en dos grupos.
Los afrancesados apoyaban a José Bonaparte y las ideas francesas.
Los patriotas defendían al rey Fernando VII y luchaban contra la ocupación francesa. Esta división provocó conflictos internos en España
Afrancesados:
La Guerra de Independencia española tuvo varias fases.
Primero, la resistencia popular y la acción de las guerrillas sorprendieron y debilitaron al ejército
francés.
Después, Napoleón intervino directamente y ocupó gran parte del país con un gran ejército.
Finalmente, con la ayuda militar de Inglaterra, los españoles lograron derrotar a las tropas francesas
en 1814.
El Tratado de Fontainebleau:
El Tratado de Fontainebleau fue firmado en 1807 entre Francia y España. Permitía el paso de tropas francesas por España para invadir Portugal, aliado de Inglaterra, y preveía dividir Portugal en tres partes.España aceptó por su alianza con Napoleón, pero el tratado permitió a Francia ocupar ciudades españolas, provocando el descontento popular. Fue una de las causas de la Guerra de la Independencia española.
