Fact Vs Fake
How to spot fake news?
Click away from the story to investigate the site, its mission and its contact info.
Headlines can be outrageous in an effort to get clicks. What's the whole story?
Do a quick search on the author. Are they credible? Are they real?
Reposting old news stories doesn't mean they're relevant to current events.
If it is too outlandish, it might be satire. Research the site and author to be sure.
Consult an adult or a fact- checking site.

Fake news, or "noticias falsas," is a term used to describe fabricated information that is disseminated to misinform or manipulate the audience, often for political, economic, or personal gain. They can be categorised into:
- Misinformation: unintentional spread of false information).
- Disinformation deliberate spread of falsehoods).
On the Internet we can find a lot of useful and practical information for our daily lives, but some content is created with a different purpose: generating doubts, social alarm and misinformation.
The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending intimidating or threatening messages.
It´s the irrational fear of not having access to a smartphone, electronic device, or internet connection. Basic symptoms: - Anxiety when you don´t have access to your phone or internet. You continuously check your phone, even with no reason to. - You wake up in the middle of the night and check your phone. - Isolation. You prefer being on your phone instead of hanging out with friends. - You feel distracted at school or your academic results worsen. - Physical symptoms like headaches could appear.
Every time we go online, we leave a digital footprint which tracks what we do on the Internet. Any information you share can put you at risk of predators like cyberbullies (both in-person and online).
Deepfakes are manipulated videos created to trick viewers into believing that a specific person, whether anonymous or a public figure, is making statements or actions that never took place.
A cyberbystander plays an important role in the story as he or she is someone who witnesses bullying, harassment, or aggressive behavior online but is not the primary aggressor or the target.Remember! Don't share compromising photos and videos of another person. The person being recorded may not have given their consent. Support and help the victim by telling a person you trust (family, teachers, friends).
This could be anything from being critical of others to making distasteful jokes. Remember: don´t post anything online that you wouldn’t want your grandma to see.
This is the sort of thing a cyberagressor does...
- Recording an altercation or a fight.
- Insults through the Internet.
- Impersonating someone.
- Sending threats.
- Sending confidential or sensitive information
A cybervictim usually... - experiences sudden mood changes - isolates themselves - starts failing academically - does not feel like going out or socializing with friends, etc. Remember! You must always give your CONSENT to be filmed or have personal content uploaded to social media.
To control who sees your posts and photos, keeping certain aspects of your life hidden from the public. Also to avoid data collection and targeted ads. It prevents identity theft, fraud and you avoid spam or nuisance messages/comments.
It is the obsessive focus and use of social media websites and apps, even though it causes negative consequences such as relationship issues, anxiety, and low self-esteem. These might include:- Mood modification, changes in emotional states. - Abstinence symptoms (experiencing unpleasant physical and emotional symptoms when social media use is restricted or stopped). - Interpersonal conflict (problems between people due to social media). - Excesive behavioural, cognitive, and emotional issues due to social media.
Try the “digital detox”: - Turn off notifications - Use a timer to control the time you spend with the phone. - Use airplane mode: It's a good way to give yourself a break from the Internet. It is also a good solution if you want your alarm, but you don´t want to be tempted to check your phone in the middle of the night.BEST THERAPY: MOVE, REST PROPERLY, LIMITED ACCESS TO YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND ENJOY TIME WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
If you share things that are offensive, embarrassing or inappropriate, it could affect your job or educational prospects in the future. Remember that everything posted online stays there forever, even if it’s taken down by the person who posted it.
Don’t share intimate photos or videos (sexting). This advice may seem obvious, but it’s critical that you understand that anything you send or post online can be screenshotted and shared, and inappropriate images could get you into serious trouble.
