GOLF HISTORY
Golf started in Scotland about 500 years ago.People played it by hitting a small ball with a stick. They played in open fields and near the sea. The game became popular with many people in Scotland. In 1744, the first rules of golf were written. Later, golf spread to other countries like England and the USA. Today, golf is played all over the world.
Parts of the fields
1. Tee: It is the place where each hole starts and where you hit the ball.
2. Fairway: It is the area of short grass where the ball is supposed to go.
3. Rough: It is the long grass around the fairway that makes the game harder. 4. Hole: It is the place where the ball has to go in.
5. Bunkers: These are areas with sand that make the game more difficult. 6.Water hazards: These are areas with water, like lakes or rivers, that give a penalty if the ball falls in.
What you need to play golf
Golf clubs: they are used to hit the ball. There are different types, like the driver (for long shots), irons, and the putter (to put the ball in the hole).
Hole and flag: they show the final goal of the game.
Golf ball: it is small, white, and has little holes on it.
How to play
Golf is a sport where you hit a ball with different clubs to put it into a hole using the fewest hits possible. Golf courses have several holes, and each one starts at the tee and ends at the green. Players use different clubs depending on the distance, and every hit counts. It is a sport that needs precision, calm, and strategy.
Facts
- Clothing is important. In many golf courses, you are not allowed to play without a polo shirt or if you wear jeans.
- Golf is one of the few sports where the player with fewer points wins.
- Golf is considered a mental sport because it needs a lot of concentration and strategy.
- A golf field use to have 18 holes because a Scottish field normally had 18 holes and many countrys take this like an habit.
- Golf balls weren`'t always white. Before, they were made of leather and filled with feathers.
- The longest golf shot ever recorded was over 470 meters, thanks to a slope and strong wind.
