SUMMARY

A group of 29 pilgrims from all social classes at an inn in London.The host proposes a storytelling contest to pass the time while traveling to Canterbury Cathedral. During the trip,the pilgrims take truns speaking.The book alternates between serius stories.The characters often arge and interrupt each other reflecting the social tensions of the time. After famous stoires,like the wite of bath´s wiews or the Pardoner´s tale about greed,the group approaches their destination. The last speaker is the Parson,who delivers a sermon on penitence and the path to heaven instead of a fictional story.

MAIN CHARACTERS

-The host:He is the one who often´s storytelling competition among the pilgrims. -The chancer:Altough the narrantor´s name watches the autor name,they are considered two different people. -The knight:The brightest figure in the book.He is wise,honorable and corageous. -The wife of bath:A lustful businesswoman,who has married five times and considers herself a relation shine expert.

The pilgrims travel roughly 60 miles to go from London to the Saint Thomas Becket shrine in Canterbury.

FUN FACTS

It Was Never Finished: Chaucer intended to write over 100 tales, but died having completed only 24. The pilgrims never actually arrive at Canterbury or return home in the text. A "Common" Language Choice: Written in Middle English, it was a bold choice in a time when elite literature was typically in Latin or French, helping to cement the language of the common folk.
