Minas de Rodalquilar

Parque natural de cabo de gata-Níjar

While gold is the star, the mines have been exploited for three main minerals throughout history:Gold: The primary resource during the 20th century. Approximately 5 tons of pure gold were extracted from quartz veins within volcanic rocks between 1956 and 1966, according to records at Rodalquilar.es. Alum: The area's first major industry (15th–16th centuries). It was essential as a mordant for textile dyes and for tanning leather, as detailed by Turisnil. Rodalquilarite: An extremely rare mineral (iron tellurite chloride) discovered here in 1947. It is named after the village and is highly prized by collectors worldwide, though it has no industrial use

Origin: Founded in 1998 in Baza (Granada) as the starting point for Áridos Anfersa.Evolution: Grew from a local extraction site into a key facility for Spanish civil engineering. Current Role: Core asset producing high-quality aggregates and supporting logistics and concrete plants. Expansion: Now part of a broad network handling major public works contracts.

  • In the El Carmen quarry and similar sites across the Baza region, the extraction focuses primarily on industrial minerals and construction materials:
  • Limestone: The most common sedimentary rock used to produce high-quality aggregates.
  • Gypsum: Widely found in the Baza basin, essential for the production of plaster and cement.
  • Dolomite: A carbonate mineral used in construction and various industrial chemical processes.
  • Aggregates: A general term for gravel, sand, and crushed stone used as raw materials for concrete and road infrastructure.

The Santa Ana de la Albaida Quarry

The Santa Ana de la Albaida Quarry, located north of Córdoba, is an ancient calcarenite extraction site used since Roman times (1st century AD) to supply stone for Colonia Patricia and later for the caliphal complex of Medina Azahara, taking advantage of its proximity and the quality of the material; over the centuries it has left visible quarry faces and galleries that bear witness to historical stone-cutting techniques. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest, it is now preserved as an archaeological area, with no active extraction, integrated into the natural landscape of the Sierra de Córdoba: it is accessible to hikers and studied for its heritage value, although with limited enhancement and no intensive tourist development.

Mine of aguas teñidas

It is a prominent underground mining operation of polymetallic sulfides (copper, zinc, lead) located in the Iberian Pyrite Belt.Discovered in 1980, it closed in 2001, but was reopened in 2007 by MATSA, becoming a modern, technologically advanced operation and a benchmark for sustainable mining. It mainly extracts copper, zinc and lead minerals.

La mina conil de la frontera

Resource: High-purity native sulfur, once among the best in Europe.Peak Period: Active since the 19th century (e.g., Caucasus mine). Impact: Key economic driver for Conil de la Frontera alongside fishing. Closure: Shut down mid-20th century due to depletion and competition. Current State: Abandoned landscape with sealed shafts and spoil heaps. Today, this historic site has been rehabilitated and transformed into La Mina, an ambitious open-air concert and leisure venue. The space blends industrial heritage with a top-tier cultural offering, hosting large-scale events such as the summer concert series, which has already confirmed artists like La Plazuela and Rosario for 2026.

la Mina La Aquisgrana (La Carolina)

La Aquisgrana Mine is a historical site located in the city of La Carolina, in the province of Jaén. This mine, which dates back to the 19th century, was one of the main sources of lead and silver extraction in the region.

The mines of La Carolina in Jaén, historically one of the most important mining districts in Europe, are known mainly for the extraction of galena (the main lead ore) and argentiferous galena (a source of silver).

THE MINA OF CERRO PLATERO
  • Location: Geology and hiking site in East Málaga.
  • Mining: Former source of lead, iron, and zinc.
  • Activity: Popular trails available on Wikiloc.
  • Danger: Abandoned "Los Angelitos" mine is unprotected and prone to cave-ins.
  • Warning: Do not enter shafts without professional equipment.
  • Lead Minerals: Mainly galena and argentiferous galena (silver-bearing lead), as well as cerussite and anglesite.
  • Zinc Minerals: Primarily sphalerite (also known as blende) and smithsonite.
  • Other Minerals: Pyrite, fluorite, and the rarer descloizite have also been identified.

Mina de Las Cruces:

-The Las Cruces copper mine, located in the province of Seville (Gerena, Salteras, Guillena), is a prominent hydrometallurgical complex in Europe that produces high-purity copper.-

It is a high-tech copper mining complex and one of the largest in Europe, known for its innovative high-purity copper production process. The Las Cruces mine, located in Seville, Spain, specializes primarily in the extraction and production of high-grade copper.
