CAN: ABILITY AND POSSIBILITY/permission

We useCOULD in the PAST

EXAMPLES:

• I can't play the piano.
• I can swim.
• Can I go to the toilet?
• Can you correct the exercise, please?

EXAMPLES:

• When I was a baby I couldn't talk.
• Last year I couldn't go to Andorra, but thisyear I'm going.
• She could go to the party, but she didn't.

SHOULD: EXPRESSES RECOMMENDATION

We use it to give recommendations/advice.

EXAMPLES:

• You should study more.

MUST: EXPRESSES OBLIGATION

We use it to express rules, things that are mandatory.

• NOW IT IS YOUR TURN, INDIVIDUALLY, WRITE SOME RULES THAT WE MUST FOLLOW IN THISHIGH SCHOOL:(MINIMUM 4, MORE IF YOU HAVE EXTRA TIME)

EXAMPLES:

• You must be 18 years old to drink alcohol.
• You must be in school until you are 16.
• You mustn't kill people.
• You mustn't set fires outside in summer.
