Pierre le Vénérable a toujours vécu baigné dans le monde de la religion catholique:

• Dès l'âge de cinq ans, il entre à l'abbaye de Sauxillanges
• Il finit par devenir abbé de Cluny en 1122
• Suite à sa mort, il est considéré comme un saint en raison de son implication pour convertir les musulmans au christianisme

Il est tout d'abord un religieux, et un abbé engagé.

C'est aussi un auteur et un traducteur: il fait traduire le Coran en Latin.

Il tente de convertir les musulmans au christianisme.

Ses actions qui l'ont rendu connu

• Il a publié la première traduction du Coran
• Il est contre les croisades ( "Traité contre la secte sarrasine")
• C'est un voyageur polémiste qui s'intéresse à l'Islam.

• Selon lui, la conversion au christianisme doit passer par le dialogue.
