Manchester evolved from a Roman fort called Mamucium into the world’s first industrialized city.It is became one of the most important industrial cities in the world during the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was famous for textile factories, canals, and railways. Today, Manchester is known for music, culture, science, and especially football, with clubs such as Manchester United and Manchester City.
When and why it was built
Old Trafford is a man-made football stadium. Construction began in 1909, and the stadium officially opened on 19 February 1910. It was built because Manchester United needed a bigger and better stadium to play their maches.
Who built and designed it.
The stadium was designed by the Scottish architect Archibald Leitch, who designed many football stadiums in the United Kingdom. Construction was carried out by the company Messrs Brameld and Smith of Manchester
