Where is Bourges

Bourges - is in the middle of France - is in the region Centre-Val de Loire - is in the Berry : Indre and Cher - is in the departement of Cher

Bourges is a town with a fascinating history ! But why?

Bourges used to be Avacirum, the capital of France.

Because of it, there are lots of historical monuments and figures connected to the town.

The famous tradesman Jacques Coeur lived(1395-1495) in the town. He was the first Frenchman to establish and maintain close trade relations with the oriental countries (Syria,Mesopotamia, Israël, Egypt...)

He financed king Charles VII. He was raised to the nobility by him but also later, exiled. His main home, a gothic palace, is located in Bourges. The theater of Bourges is named after him.

He was married to Macée de Léodepart with whom he had seven children.

The reconstruction of the tomb of Duke Jean de Berry is in the Jacques Coeur Palace

His Palace became the Cher departmental council building.

The duke, son of Jean II The Good, is well known because of his love for art.
