And its sister city Mexicali ?
Calexico is a city located on the border between the U.S. an Mexico. This city represents the share of culture and friendship between the two countries. It is formed by the mix of the words "California" and "Mexico". Also, Calexico being on the Amercian side of the border, has a sister city called Mexicali on the other side in Mexico. The friendship between both cities doesn't know boundaries. However, those cities are currently in the middle of economic, social an political tensions.
Crossing the border nowadays has become largely more complicated and even dangerous for illegal immigrants. Many of them attempt to cross but could get arrested, deported, emprisonned by the U.S. border patrol or even die from hunger, thirst or exhaustion.

Illegal immigration between the U.S. and Mexico has been in the center of debates lastly. It is mainly due to President Donald Trump first term, when immigration and border policies have been strenghtened by the creation of a wall separating the two countries.

Plenty of people cross the border everyday. It is either illegal and dangerous, or legal and immigrants must wait in a 3-hours long queue. But why would they do so ?
- First, a lot of students cross the border to commute from home to school everyday.
- Also, many job seekers cross the border very early to get the firsts jobs.
- This will to come to the U.S. is linked to the American dream. If job seekers and students cross the border daily, it is to have more opportunities and to live the life that they have dreamt of.

However, this subject is sparkling debate. Socially, many Americans and Mexicans complain about the creation of the wall on the border. Demonstations are organized claiming that their friendship and interdependance to the other country cannot be stopped by a wall. Though this wall is now built, some people still fight against it and what it represents such as Ana Teresa Fernandez, who, with volunteers, has started as an activist act, to paint the wall.
Firstly, the two cities are not in the same country. Separated by the wall, the bond between both cities is now limited even though they're in the same area.

Secondly, the population is quite different from Calexico to Mexicali. While Calexico has had a constant number of inhabitants since the 90's, Mexicali has had a blatant demographic growth increasing by more than 600,000 inhabitants during the same period of time

Thirdly, the industries in Mexicali and Calexico are not the same. Indeed, when American factories have implanted in Mexicali, people started to come to Mexicali for job opportunities. Meanwhile in Calexico, the industry is not based on the same sector.
