CAHV-Z
Protective Zone
for Outdoor Units
Protective Zone
In the event of flammable refrigerant leaking from the outdoor unit, it must be ensured that no one is endangered outdoors or in adjacent buildings, and that none of the refrigerant can enter the building.
For this purpose, the protective zone is specified as below:
- There must not be any building openings, entrance to the basment, grooves, or into the wastewater system in this area
- The protective zone must not extend to adjacent buildings or public traffic areas
- Ignition sources must not be present in this area, either permanently or for short periods of time
- When the outdoor unit is installed at ground level, there should be a suitable ventilated fence that allows sufficient air flow and prevents unauthorised personnel from entering the protective zone
See examples on the following slide.

If there are multiple CAHV-Z units located adjacent to one another in the open area, units are to be seperated by a gap of no less than 0.16m.

The open distance on either side of the unit (Xi and Xr) must be at least 2m
The table shown is for calculating the distance between the back of the unit and the solid wall (Yb) and the distance in front of the unit (Yf1).
Examples of Protective Zone
Openings into any building more than 2m from the unit.
