Surrounding conditions

for Outdoor Units

The outdoor unit should be installed in a place where at least one of the four sides is open like the examples shown.

OR

In a sufficiently large space without depressions.

If it's absolutely unavoidable to install the outdoor unit in a space where all four sides are blocked, or there are depressions, then either Condition A or Condition B, MUST be satisfied.

Conditions A & B are covered on the following slides

Condition A:

Secure sufficient installation space and follow the restriction of the possible installation height for parapet walls regarding ignition sources.

Based on the size of the installation area A (X-axis), find the possible height of h (Y-axis) in which ignition sources must not exist. Ensure no sources of ignition are placed below h. However, when h is higher than the height of parapet *1, h can be equivalent to the height of parapet.

*1 Definition of parapet: a low protective wall along the edge of a roof, bridge or balcony. Example: When A is 100m2, any ignition source cannot be installed below h 1.3m (the red line on the graph).

Condition B:

Create an appropriate open ventilation area

The open ventilation area refers to those that meet all of the following conditions: it starts at a height of 0.125m or less from the ground (b), the vertical length of the sides is at least 80% of the longitudinal direction of the wall on which it is placed (a), and the area must occupy more than 75% of the total area of the wall (c).

Note: Conditions A & B are for maintaining safety only, not for specification gaurantee. In addition to the restriction of ignition sources, people are not to be allowed to enter the installation area where four sides are closed, the only exception being authorised personnel qualified to safely carry out maintenance tasks.

Clarifications

Difference between a suitably ventilated fenced-off area Vs an enclosure:

The crucial difference between a "suitably ventilated fenced-off area", and an "enclosure", is fencing allows a sufficient amount of air to pass through the walls. Whereas an enclosure has solid walls that do not allow air to pass through them.

CAHV-Z MUST NOT be installed inside an enclosure.
