Calexico and Mexicali developped together around the border between the US and Mexico. While it separates the two locations, economic and cultural links have always existed.
So now, many families live on both sides of the border and people cross the border every days to work or to go to school. Spanish and English are spoken here everywhere, and cultures blend through food, music or lifestyle.
This has created a shared border identity, where people feel connected to the same region and where there is no difference in the both populations.

Calexico is an american small town from southern california and also around the border with Mexico. Currently, Calexico have around 40000 inhabitants. It is a small city, especially compared to its neighbor Mexicali, but it plays an important role because of its location on the border.
Calexico developed a close connection with Mexicali. When Mexicali developed as an industrial and manufacturing city, Calexico focused more on administration and logistics due to the border. The twin cities facilitate the trade with the border between the United-States and Mexico.
Today, Calexico plays a main role in the concept of the border and for the United-States. And also makes the border a strong element oh its identity.

Difficulties to crossing the border
- Cross the border is really difficult - The two cities are very close - Passport or visa are obligated - They are social and economic inequalities - Quality of life is really not the same (The song is on the button on the right)
