Always give examples

It is no good simply saying you like a subject, or you are a kind person. You need to prove it!Giving examples also helps provide detail in your answers and demonstrate your knowledge of different topics.

  • Use your general knowledge or what you have learned in school
  • Use the List
  • You should give examples for almost every question!

Never give up

Sometimes you will find it difficult to give an answer to a question. You must never end your answer early - always give ideas and try.Even if you have to slightly exaggerate or add to a story or fact about you.

  • Use examples to help show your thinking
  • Ask follow-up questions if stuck
  • Use your List!

Be positive

This is perhaps the most important rule, because the interview is a personal conversation - they want to see you like them and are enthusiastic!Even questions that seem to invite a negative response ('What is your least favourite subject'?) can be answered positively

  • Do not be too honest
  • Focus on how you fix problems
  • Show positive body language

In critical thinking questions, try to use the phrase 'it depends'

This helps you to push yourself to think in the right way - showing balance and not giving up on the harder questions.

  • Avoid black and white answers
  • Define key words
  • Think about different perspectives

Always listen and respond to exactly what the interviewer says

Interviewers often give hints and suggestions about what they want you to focus on in your answer. You must follow those hints.

  • Listen to the instructions of the question very carefully
  • Use the words of the question in your answer to help you remember
