This month we will explore the importance of soil for the growth of our little seed. Gaia challenges us to create a soil lab and conduct an experiment about the three types of soil and water flow and absorption. As engineers we will create a seed protector from too much cold, wind or rain. Also we will have fun creating catapults for throwing seed bombs, meet online and see whos seedbomb travelled the longer distnce.
Do not forget to take pictures and post them in our twinspace!

Soil lab
Experiment:This activity helps us understand the importance of soil ,water flow and absorption for plant growth. We will create homemade filters using a transparent bottles or plastic cups and different types of soil ( sand, clay, loam and soil) and observe how water passes through each layer. We discuss which type of soil retains more water and which allows it to flow through more quickly, linking our observations to what plants need in order to grow. We choose the best type of soil and plant our seeds and observe them grow.
Materials: plastic cups or plastic bottles, soil (sand, clay and loam), water.

Seeds and plants need to be protected from too much cold, wind or rain. As little engineers we need to create something to protect our seeds and plants.
Collaboration: Catapults and seed bombs.
Time to meet and have fun!We create pairs (google document). Each pair meet online on a dayand time they agree. Google document for pairing: With our children we create simple catapults and shoot seed bombs. You can use icecream sticks, elastic bands, plastic spoons, or toilet roll and a balloon. We meet with our pair and present our catapult and throw a seedbomb. We measure the distance and write it in the spreadsheet. Google Spreadsheat for distances: Have Fun!
Congratulations! Υou won the Engineer's badge!
