Assassination

Charlie Kirk, an American right-wing political activist, was assassinated at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was speaking at an outdoor campus debate planned by Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization he co-founded and led.

Storming of the Capitol

The Jan. 6th, 2021 attack on the US Capitol was carried out by mainly far-right extremists, in an attempt to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 presidetial election results. The acts of violence included assaults on police, vandalism and many deaths and injuries.

President Donald Trump was shot while speaking at an open-air campaign in Butler Pennsylvania. Trump was wounded when a bullet grazed his ear, and one other audience member was killed in the action. Suspected shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks was killed by Secret Services shortly after he opened fire.

Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman was assassinated in a shooting at her own home. Hortman, the leader of the state House Democratic caucus, was killed alongside her husband Mark Hortman.
