Read in right: The United-Kingdom colonized many countries in the time of imperialism. The racism of the period sometimes appeared in children's stories. Characters travelled to islands in the Carribean, where a lot of colonialism happened. Authors didn't care about realism: they wanted children to believe in the superiority of their country. Tourism was rare at the time, so people learned from stories and it was very damaging.
Your final project:
Write a letter to a publishing house to ask for change in the children stories that they publish. ¤ Why is there a problem? Give specific examples (from you lesson... or from elsewhere!) ¤ What should we do instead? Offer suggestions using "instead of", "rather than" and verbs in "into". 140 words.
