At Home on the Range

Words running wild don’t make sense A poet rounds them up, builds a fence Takes the sounds and puts them through their paces Some are sad and some wear smiley faces Some are short but pack a punch and some are quiet and shy Some always give a hundred per cent while others just don’t try

Some are fit and push themselves while others are simply lazy Some can’t help but tell the truth while others are shiftless and hazy The poet is a cowboy Out on the range with the herds Rounding them up at the close of the day And the horses, of course, are words.
