The ‘I Can’t Wait’ Card

Several organizations offer “I Can’t Wait” restroom cards. The cards can be used to help explain inflammatory bowel disease and gain access to private restrooms when public ones aren’t available.

IBD Medications

Members pack long-term supplies of medications, copies of their prescriptions, and names of health care providers in the areas they’re visiting. They also keep over-the-counter medications on hand, like Pepto-Bismol and the antidiarrheal Imodium.

Clothes and Protective Garments

It can be helpful to carry an extra set (or two) of clothes in case of accidents. As an added precaution, some members dress in dark clothing or extra-long sweaters to hide signs of an accident until they can change clothes.

Skin-Soothing Cream

Repeated wiping can irritate the skin around the anus and cause discomfort. Alcohol-free, fragrance-free, skin-soothing creams can be applied directly to the affected areas to help relieve burning and itching without worsening the irritation.

Air Freshener

Many members carry air fresheners to mask strong odors after using public restrooms.

Cleanup Supplies

Members often carry spare toilet paper, disposable wipes, and other cleaning supplies such as disposable gloves and hand sanitizer to use in case of accidents.

Map of Toilet Locations

A critical part of planning is knowing where you can “go.” Some members rely on free toilet-finder apps to research bathrooms along their routes.
