About the project
Collaboration lies at the heart of HEARTBEATS. Students work together within their own classrooms as well as in transnational teams, co-creating artworks, storybooks and kindness campaigns. They participate in interactive webinars, engage in creative expression and practise mindfulness activities in natural settings, strengthening both their emotional resilience and their sense of belonging. Every activity within HEARTBEATS celebrates shared human experiences while respecting individuality. By highlighting both personal and collective emotional “heartbeats”, the project empowers students to understand themselves better, appreciate diversity and build meaningful, compassionate connections. Ultimately, HEARTBEATS aspires to create school communities where empathy, respect and emotional well-being are not just taught, but truly lived.
HEARTBEATS is a collaborative, multidisciplinary educational project that aims to nurture kindness, self-care, respect and emotional intelligence among students. In a world where social and emotional skills are as important as academic knowledge, HEARTBEATS invites learners to slow down, connect with themselves and others, and recognise the value of positive behaviour in everyday life. The project is structured around seven thoughtfully designed modules, each focusing on key aspects of emotional awareness, empathy and responsible citizenship. Through these modules, students explore how their actions and attitudes impact not only their school environment but also their wider communities.

Thank You Notes
Kind Words for Classmates
A simple thank you can brighten someone’s day! The children wrote small notes of appreciation to people at school and at home — to their teacher, the headmistress, the cleaning lady, their parents, and others who make their days better. Gratitude was in the air all day long!
Each student drew a classmate’s name and wrote a kind compliment or an encouraging message for them. They secretly placed the notes on their friends’ desks. Later, we opened the notes together — smiles, laughter, and warm hearts filled the room!

International Volunteer Day
On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we proudly hosted students from the Special Education School for a morning filled with games, cooperation, and joyful interaction. Volunteerism is not only big actions; it is offering your time, kindness, and friendship. So today, with every game we play and every friend we make, we are doing something beautiful for the world.
We collected school clothes that no longer fit our students and donated them to the Children’s Shelter, so they could be given to children in need.

🌸 From Reflection to Voice
Focus on Self-Care & Self-Encouragement
In this learning sequence, students move from self-reflection to creative expression and finally to confident sharing. Through the Mirror of Kind Words, they explore positive self-talk and emotional awareness. With their Self-Care Posters, they transform personal strategies and affirmations into visual messages. Finally, in the Positive Voices Soundtrack, they give power to their words by recording and sharing them with an international audience. Together, these activities strengthen emotional resilience, creativity, communication skills, and a sense of belonging within the HEARTBEATS community. 💛
Students explored how their inner voice can shift from negative to positive, practicing the language of a growth mindset. Through discussion and examples, learners transformed limiting thoughts into encouraging and empowering messages.

Self-Care Corners
Students responded to different emotional scenarios by moving to one of four class corners (calm, create, move, talk), depending on what would help them feel better. Through this activity, they explored a variety of self-care strategies and understood that each person may choose different ways to manage their feelings.
We created a collaborative “Self-Care Menu” (like a restaurant menu) in Canva, organizing ideas into four categories: calm, creative, energy and connection. This helped students reflect on and personalize the strategies that support their well-being in different situations.

We used the idea of the “popcorn effect” as a metaphor for resilience: just like popcorn kernels need time and the right conditions to pop, each person grows, learns, and “shines” in their own time. HEARTBEATS Outdoors: Nature speaks, We listen 🦋
We stepped into the small forest area of our school to experience a moment of calm, reflection and connection with nature. Sitting quietly in a circle, the students closed their eyes and mindfully listened to the natural sounds around them. This simple mindfulness activity encouraged students to slow down and focus on the present moment. Afterwards, students chose a mindfulness tool from the center of the circle, such as stress balls and pop-it toys, and explored how movement, touch, and repetition can help the body and mind relax and self-regulate. Through this outdoor experience, students discovered that mindfulness can be practiced in simple everyday moments and that nature itself can become a space for emotional balance, calm, and well-being.

This is the space where we keep the materials we use for our mindfulness and wellbeing activities. It includes stress balls, mandalas for colouring, bubbles, pop-it toys, and small maze games that help students focus, relax, and develop concentration through play and sensory activities. We also use many of these materials during our outdoor activities, giving students the opportunity to connect with nature while practising mindfulness and emotional wellbeing.

Inspired by this experience, we decided to bring that magic back into our classroom! We created a themed wall called 'A Sea of Books...' Let’s blow some magic bubbles
A magical new element is introduced to our outdoor mindfulness practices: blowing bubbles! This simple, joyful activity is actually a powerful tool for breath regulation. To create the perfect, long-lasting bubble, the students had to practice deep inhalations and slow, gentle, and controlled exhalations. Watching the bubbles float away also became an exercise in letting go of worries. It was a beautiful, calm session filled with quiet smiles and deep, mindful breaths in the fresh air.

Sitting together in the open air, students engaged with handheld balance ball maze toys, completely still and absorbed in the moment. This activity was a wonderful exercise in sensory grounding—showing the students how to find their inner calm and maintain absolute focus even in an open, outdoor environment.
