This project aims to raise environmental awareness among pupils and promote active citizenship through simple, eco-friendly actions. Partner schools will work together to complete monthly "eco-challenges," share good practices, create digital stories with environmental heroes, and celebrate Earth Day with a joint online event. Students will improve their English and digital skills while learning how small actions can make a big difference for our planet. The final product will be a collaborative eBook and an interactive map with contributions from all partners.

Throughout the month, students will document their efforts through photos, drawings, and short reflections, which they will share with partner classes across Europe. This collaborative exchange fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility, helping children realize that even small changes can make a big impact. International Clean Air Day – September 7th September 7th marks International Clean Air Day, a perfect occasion for our young eco-heroes to learn about the importance of air quality and how it affects health and the environment. Through age-appropriate activities, discussions, and simple experiments, students will explore the causes of air pollution and discover easy daily habits to improve the air we breathe. We will also join our partner schools in raising awareness by creating posters, videos, and messages to celebrate this special day together in our online TwinSpace.

Discover Our Project: A Preview for Parents As the new school year begins, our class is excited to launch a meaningful and collaborative journey through the Eco-Heroes: Little Actions, Big Impact! project. This initiative aims to develop environmental awareness and a sense of active citizenship in our students through small, eco-friendly actions that have a big impact. To involve families right from the start, the children will create digital presentations in their native languages using Canva, combining their own drawings and messages to explain the project to their parents. These creative works will help families understand the goals of the initiative and feel part of the journey from the very beginning. This first step not only develops students' digital and communication skills, but also strengthens the bond between school and home, reinforcing the importance of working together for a better future. First Eco-Challenge: “Reduce and Reuse” Our initial focus will be on the important theme of “Reduce and Reuse.” Students will be encouraged to identify ways they can cut down on waste and find creative ways to reuse materials at home and at school. From rethinking packaging to repurposing everyday items, this challenge invites children to become mindful consumers and responsible stewards of the environment.

September Activities

October continues with a series of exciting and meaningful activities in October. This month is especially important because it connects to the EU Code Week, giving students the chance to combine environmental awareness with computational thinking and digital creativity. Collaborative Eco-Code – Our Title in Hex! To celebrate EU Code Week, we launched a special collaborative coding activity: Eco-Code – Hex Edition. The goal was to encode and decode the title of our project using hexadecimal code. To complete this task, we split into two international teams: One group of teachers and their students encoded each letter of the project title using hexadecimal values. The second group then decoded the letters to rebuild the correct title: Eco-Heroes: Little Actions, Big Impact! This fun activity encouraged students to practice logic and problem-solving while learning how digital languages work—and all with an environmental message behind it!
Second Eco-Challenge: “Save Energy – Save the Planet” Our October eco-challenge focuses on energy saving. Students will explore ways to reduce energy consumption both at school and at home, from turning off lights when not needed to using energy-efficient appliances and adopting good daily habits. Pupils will document their actions through short videos, posters, or photo stories and share them with project partners to inspire others. Together, we will reflect on how saving energy helps protect the planet. World Tree Day – October 10th On World Tree Day (October 10th), our eco-heroes will celebrate the importance of trees for our environment and our lives. Each class will choose how to mark this special day: Some may plant trees or plants, others might write poems, draw posters, or record short messages explaining why trees matter. These contributions will be collected in a shared Padlet to create an international Tree Tribute Wall full of color, creativity, and care for nature.

October Activities

our Eco-Heroes: Little Actions, Big Impact! project continues to grow with creative and purposeful activities. In November, our students will focus on personal responsibility, local action, and healthy living—all while strengthening their digital and collaborative skills. Create an Environmental Hero Each class (or small teams within a class) will design their own Environmental Hero—a unique character with a name, story, powers, and mission to protect the Earth. These heroes can be inspired by local landscapes, real-life environmental activists, or the students' own imagination. Third Eco-Challenge: “Protect Nature – Act Local” This month's eco-challenge invites students to think global, but act local. Each class will choose a nearby area—such as a school garden, park, or natural corner of their neighborhood—and take small but meaningful actions to protect it. These could include: collecting litter, planting flowers or bulbs for pollinators, creating signs to remind others to respect nature. Children will reflect on how even small actions can improve the world around them.
Outdoor Classroom Day – November 6th On November 6th, we celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day! Each class will spend time learning and exploring outside, discovering how nature can be a classroom and a source of inspiration. Activities may include: observing plants, animals, and seasonal changes, conducting simple science experiments outdoors, creating nature-inspired art and writing, or playing educational games in the open air. By connecting learning with the outdoors, students will better understand the environment, develop curiosity, and enjoy hands-on experiences that bring lessons to life. European Day of Healty Food and Cooking - November 8th On November 8th, we celebrate the European Day of Healthy Food and Cooking! Each class will explore the importance of healthy eating and discover fun ways to prepare and enjoy nutritious meals. Activities may include: learning about nutritious ingredients and balanced diets, cooking simple healthy recipes, creating posters or digital content about food and wellness, or discussing the benefits of healthy eating habits. By connecting learning with food and nutrition, students will develop awareness of healthy lifestyles, improve their practical skills, and enjoy creative, hands-on experiences.

As we reach the final month of our Eco-Heroes: Little Actions, Big Impact! project, December is all about reflection, responsibility, and hope. Our students will wrap up this beautiful journey with meaningful actions and a symbolic celebration of Earth Day. A Message for the Earth – with Mentimeter: Students will also use Mentimeter to share one final thought, promise, or wish for our planet. All messages will be gathered into a word cloud or virtual board, becoming one collective voice from our young Eco-Heroes across Europe. Symbolic Earth Day Celebration Although Earth Day is officially in April, we will hold a symbolic celebration in December to close our project together. Each class is free to choose its own way to celebrate—through music, art, tree planting, or showcasing the work done during the project. The message is clear: every day can be Earth Day when we take care of our planet.
Collaborative song For our last collaborative activity, all the children will come together to sing a song. Each class will learn their part, and we will record the performances to create a beautiful, unified rendition. This activity will be a joyful way to foster cooperation, creativity, and a shared sense of achievement among our students. Let’s make music together! This final chapter of our journey is a celebration of everything we’ve learned and shared. And even though the project ends here, the spirit of Eco-Heroes will continue to grow in every small action.

Web 2.0 games in eTwinning projects are more than just fun—they: Boost motivation and participation Support critical thinking and problem-solving Enhance collaboration and cultural exchange Provide real-time, informal assessment Develop digital competencies Encourage better content retention

Enhancing Learning with Gamified Assessments in eTwinning Projects

Septmber: Eco-Heroes Countries and Flags (Kahoot quiz) ,Eco-Heroes Countries and Capitals (Kahoot quiz) October: Recycling Heroes!!!, Energy-Saving Heroes!!! November: Protect Nature, Wordwall Games – Respect Nature, Games Kahoot-"The actions of a small ecological hero" December: Recycling Quiz, Healthy Eating Game

Games are a valuable tool in eTwinning programs, as they enhance students' interest, foster cooperation, and create a pleasant learning environment. Through play, students develop communication, thinking, and problem-solving skills, while also learning about the culture and practices of partner countries. In our program, we utilized games in a creative and systematic way: each month, a teacher from a different country created educational games for all students. We used platforms such as Wordwall and Kahoot, so that children could participate in interactive activities that encouraged active learning and friendly competition. In this way, our students had the opportunity to learn through play, collaborate, and enjoy a joyful and multicultural learning experience.

Designs

In eTwinning projects, engaging children and youth in designing the logo and poster isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a meaningful way to empower students, strengthen collaboration, and promote the values of democratic participation. From the very beginning, our students take an active role in shaping the visual identity of the project. Each class creates proposals, discusses ideas, and selects their favorites through internal voting. These shortlisted designs are then shared with all partner schools, where the final choice is made through a Google Forms vote, allowing every student and teacher involved to have their say. This process transforms a creative task into a powerful educational experience. It: Builds a sense of ownership and pride in the project Encourages dialogue, respect, and decision-making Reinforces artistic expression and digital skills Demonstrates how collaborative democracy works—starting from the classroom.

The winning logo and poster aren’t just decorations. They become symbols of our shared commitment, ideas, and goals—created by students, for students. Witnessing such enthusiasm and thoughtful participation reminds us why student voice is at the heart of eTwinning. Because when learners are included in decisions, they don't just take part—they take initiative.

Collaboration is at the core of eTwinning programs, as it allows teachers and students from different countries to exchange ideas, be inspired, and create together. Through this process, students develop communication skills, teamwork, and respect for diversity, while feeling that they belong to a large European learning community. Joint actions always lead to significant deliverables, which are a tangible result of the collaboration. Whether it's digital presentations, posters, videos, games, or joint books, each creation reflects the collective effort and creativity of all participants. The joint products not only capture the progress of the students but also serve as valuable educational material that can be utilized in the future.
