The makeup needs of women of color began to be recognized with the launch of new brands like Fashion Fair Cosmetics in 1973. These brands helped address specific needs like increased representation of Black models. This blend of natural beauty with disco glam brings vibrant colors and bronzers for all skin tones, with a more focused emphasis on darker complexions than ever before.
Ancient times
The earliest acount of cosmetics were found here. Egyptians used incense oils for skin softness, white paint to protect from the sun, and black, antimony-based kohl for eyeliner. Ancient Indian makeup practices included the use of natural butters, oils, and honey for skincare and lip balms, emphasizing self-care and health in addition to appearance.
