With nearly 40 years of experience across diverse educational settings, Maureen Hegarty is a passionate educator committed to teaching and learning across South Australia. Her career spans teaching Reception to Year 10 in both regional and metropolitan schools, in both Catholic and government sectors.
Maureen has worked to shape and develop teacher practice at a system level through her work in tertiary education, lecturing and designing courses at the University of South Australia and Flinders University. A highly experienced mathematics coach and educational leader, she brings deep expertise in building teacher capability, enhancing pedagogy, and improving outcomes for learners.
In her current role as manager of Numeracy Policy, Maureen supports educators statewide through professional learning, resource development, and leadership initiatives. She’s also a key co-facilitator of the Thinking Maths professional learning suite, delivering Orbis programs across Years R–2, 3–5 and 6–9, and the Masterclass series.
Driven by a strong belief in the power of high-quality mathematics education, Maureen continues to empower teachers and learners, helping develop communities where every learner can thrive.
