Grandad's Memories
My grandad lives in the most beautiful cottage. Its walled garden has the tallest sunflowers and climbing pear trees. One morning, I was in the cosy living room when Grandad brought over a big book. It was the special photo album of Grandad’s memories with Gramps in the camper van. How excited he looked! I snuggled up to listen to his stories of their adventures. He was wearing his warmest smile as he gently opened the album. What adventures would he reveal?
Many years ago, Grandad and Gramps were driving through a lush valley. The camper van was rumbling along a bumpy road that took them higher and higher into the mountains. First, they saw sheep as fluffy as white clouds. After that, they marvelled at the sun’s light shining like gold above the valley. He told me how adventurous they were feeling. What wonderful journeys they had! Where else might they have gone to explore?
Next, Grandad showed me a photo of interesting homes and houses. They saw so many different kinds. Some roofs were pointy and some roofs were flat. Some had huge, glass windows while others were all colours of the rainbow. What amazing places they saw! Soon they saw flats that were taller than towers. What would it be like to live up so high? Some of the houses were as small as Grandad’s camper. Grandad said the best home was their own little van because that is where Gramps was.
Grandad’s eyes were shining when he closed the photo album. I could tell how much he loved those memories of Gramps. Then he grinned and I said it was time to make new adventures. Grandad’s van was old but strong. We cleaned the windows until they gleamed like mirrors. Soon we were trundling along to the beach and my heart felt lighter than ever. So did his. I toasted marshmallows in the brightest bonfire. Grandad played his guitar under a sky full of sparkling stars. We looked up and thought how proud Gramps would have been.
