Our eTwinning Project: Virtual Museum Night 2026 - Folklore aims to be a window into the diverse customs of each participating country. We want to get to know each other better and showcase our cultural roots. In this team work on the culture of La Mancha we want to pay a little tribute to our traditions, our cultural heritage. We are getting closer to learning more about the Music and Dance of our province of Ciudad Real and in general, in our region of Castilla La Mancha. But we also estudied the Regional Customes of La Mancha, its Gastronomy and the most popular festival in Ciudad Real, 'La Pandorga'.

It is both a folk dance and a verse for m. It is perfomanced in quick triple time ,usually by two dancers, with lively steps and rhythmic footwork. The "seguidilla" word comes from "seguida" (sequence), reflecting its rhythm.

It is a widespread spanish folk dance and song form, with many regional styles (aragonese, valencian, galician, etc.) The Jota Manchega is the La Mancha variant. It is traditionally performed at weddings, fairs and Christmas celebrations (sometimes called Jota del Mantecado)

History

It became a popular folk expresions in festival and meetings, often accompained by guitars, bandurrias, laúdes and percussion instruments like panderetasor alimirez. Declared a (Bien de Interés Cultural) (Intagible Cultural Heritage) in Spain, it remains one of the most emblematic folkloric traditions of the region.

The Manchega music, known as the Seguidilla Manchega, originated in the 15th century in Castilla la Mancha. The Seguidilla Manchega is both a song and dance typical of La Mancha it has roots in madieval traditions, with influences from Jarchas (11th-12th centuries) and cantiga of Alonso X (13th century)

Regional Custome: Ciudad Real

Regional custome CIUDAD REAL

The traditional Manchego Custome of Ciudad Real has its origin in the popular clothing of the XVII and XIX centuries. They are inspired by the everyday and festive attire of the people of La Mancha. There are three types: - Work attire: Agricultural labor - Sunday or Festive attire: More elaborate - Wedding attire: The richiest in fabrics and adorments. A symbol of prestige.

Traditional Custome: Ciudad Real

It didn´t begin as a festive onfit, but as 'everybody' and 'work' clothing, made from strong materials (linen, wood, and cloth) and adapted to the extreme climate of the manchegan plains.

The traditional custome of Ciudad Real as very similar of the Manchegan custome.It comes from the traditional clothing worm by the people of La Mancha between the XVII and XIX centuries, especially shepherds, farmers and rural workers.

Over time, these garments more stylized and decorated eventually teurning into the traditional worn today in festivals,and popular celebrations throughout the province of Ciudad Real.

Regional Custome

The woman manchega

The Woman from La Mancha has historically been represented as a symbol of strength, work and famiy roots, and in Ciudad Real she is honored with this sculpture that highlight her role in the daily and cultural life in the region of Castilla La Mancha. A work by the sculptor Jesús Ruíz de la Hermosa (2006) who wanted to represnt a mother and her daughter seated on a public bench, dressed in the traditional custome of the region. This sculpture is a homage to all the women of La Mancha, showcasing their daily role and their importance in social life.

  • White shirt: made of linen or cotton, with lace details on the collar and sleeves.
  • Bodice or corset:A fitted garment for the torso, usually in dark colors.
  • Refajo (skirt):A wide wool skirt, often emboidered with foral motifs.
  • Apron:worn over the skirt, embroidered or decorated with lace.
  • Scarf:Made of skiltor wool, embroidered, coverilng the shoulders.

  • Waiscoat or jacket ("chupa"):Made of cloth , with metal or bone buttons .
  • Sash:Woolen , in bright colors ( red , blue , green ),tied around the waist .
  • Breeches:Short troursers up to the knee , usually black .
  • Gaiters or short trousers:Made of wool , covering the legs .
  • Accesoires:Neck scarf in varied clors , adds contrast , hat wide - brimmed or typical cap , depending on the occasion .

La Pandorga

It is a festival of the town of Ciudad Real which is celebrated at 31st July. This festival is held in thank to the Virgin of Prado for that year's harvest.

"El Pandorgo" is a popular figure chosen to represent the people, whose main role is to act as the host of the Pandorga Festival and invite everyone to the traditiona "limoná" and "puñao de torraos".The Pandorgo simbolizes the gratitude of the people of Ciudad Real to the Virgin of Rrado for the harvests obtained this year.

Dulcinea, in addition to being a character in Cervantes' book "Don Quixote of La Mancha" refers to the figure of the woman from La Mancha.

She is the Patron of Ciudad Real. Thanks are given to Her for the harvest of that year.

She is a symbol of tradition, Manchegan identity and a tribute to a women of Ciudad Real.

He drew inspirtation from his own experiences, knights books and Golden Age society to create the characters of Don Quixote.

He is the author of "Don Quixote de La Mancha" Its characters have inspired the differnt symbols of the Festival.

This is a summary of the Fetsival of La Pandorga, with the ceremony of election of the Pandorgo and Dulcinea, the procession in honor of the patron saint, the Virgin of Prado, and the popular festival.
