Since each elk has ten molars, the number of elk teeth on the dress correlates to the strong hunting abilities of the men in the tribe, indicating superiority of the tribe. Cones used to be made of rolled tobacco can lids during traditional times.Older dresses still include rolled tobacco can lids that get manufactured specifically for this dress. Even though some tradiitonal materials may be unavailable currently, Native Americans use the resources available around them in order to preserve and celebrate culture.

Samayoa's dress features a long breast plate, made out of real animal bone. The plate itself weighs around 40 pounds. While the Women's Northern Traditional dance seems easy to do, dancers wear extremely heavy dresses and often dance for three days straight --- an impressive skill that requires adequate agility and stamina.
