Showcasing Global Citizenship through Student Research for International Day
Students showcased their research and presentation skills as part of our International Day celebrations. This project allowed them to explore the rich culture, geography, history, and traditions of their home countries. Through this process, they developed key skills in: locating, evaluating, and compiling information from various sources (Independent Research and Information Synthesis), gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation for different ways of life (Cultural Awareness and Global Citizenship), and effectively organizing and presenting their findings to inform and engage an audience (Presentation and Communication). This connects classroom learning with global events, celebrating the diversity and interconnectedness of our world.

Following Instructions, One Delicious Step at a Time
In Year 3 English, we've been uncovering the secrets of instructional texts! We learned about all the key ingredients, including introductions, snappy headings, numbered steps, powerful imperative verbs, speedy adverbs and brilliant time adverbials (to name just a few!).To really bring our learning to life, we decided to swap the classroom for the kitchen and follow some instructions for real. We kicked off our culinary adventure by mixing up some fabulous oobleck! It was super fun and helped us see all those instructional features in action. Our next, slightly tastier, challenge was whipping up delicious omelettes, using fresh basil from our school garden. Our teachers captured the whole process with photos—our very own step-by-step guide—which was a huge help when it came time to write up the recipe ourselves. The whole process was great fun and showed us just how important it is to follow instructions exactly!

2025 Mini Olympics Celebrations
As part of their Ancient Greek Civilization knowledge unit in Amplify, our Grade 2 students brought history to life with a spirited Mini Olympics Celebration! Led by Miss Jessica, who carried the symbolic Olympic torch, the young athletes proudly marched in a colorful parade, each representing their country and celebrating unity and sportsmanship—just as the ancient Greeks did in honor of King Zeus. The excitement continued as students participated in a variety of events, including relay races, frisbee throws, hurdles and shot put challenges. The field was filled with energy and cheers as students demonstrated teamwork, determination and joy in every event. In connection to what they learned, students discovered how ancient artists like Myron created statues and poets like Pindar wrote verses celebrating the Olympic heroes. To honor tradition, each child was crowned with a wreath, symbolizing victory and pride—just as winners were in ancient Greece. It was a truly memorable end-of-unit celebration, where learning, fun and history came together in perfect harmony!

Bringing Stories to Life!
Our Grade 2 readers and writers have been on a magical storytelling adventure! This unit took us deep into the world of fairy tales and tall tales from The Fisherman and His Wife, The Emperor’s New Clothes, Beauty and the Beast and The Magic Pitcher. Together, we explored what makes a fairy tale special: charming characters, a touch of magic, and a lesson to learn. Then, we headed to the American frontier, where we met some unforgettable heroes—Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, John Henry and Casey Jones. Students discovered that tall tales use humor and exaggeration to tell stories about bravery, hard work and big dreams. To celebrate the end of the unit, our classroom transformed into a lively theater! Students crafted their own puppets and proudly retold their favorite stories to our Grade 1 friends. Some groups even took the stage to perform scenes from the fairy tales they’ve written and read. The room was filled with laughter, excitement, and applause as our young storytellers brought their characters to life. It was a joyful way to wrap up our unit, celebrating creativity, confidence, and the timeless power of a good story.

Year 3 Science Unit: Rocks, Soil and Fossils
At Sara Village School, year 3 recently completed their first science unit: Rocks, Soils, and Fossils. The children explored many amazing aspects of this fascinating area, actively engaging with various methods of scientific inquiry throughout the process. Rocks and Properties Students learned that there are three types of rocks, classified by the way they are formed. They compared different rock samples, exploring the distinction between natural and human-made rocks. We grouped various rocks together after investigating their physical properties, such as permeability, durability and density. Soil Investigations The children had great fun learning about the different soil layers and even made their own edible soil layers using sweets! We conducted an investigation into soil permeability, which also taught the children the importance of patience when making scientific observations. Students tested five different types of soil, carefully measuring the volume of water that passed through each one after three minutes. To conclude this activity, they ranked all the soils from the most to the least permeable. Learning about Fossils When exploring fossils, the children learned about the types of fossils and the process of their formation. They also studied the life and amazing discoveries of the pioneering paleontologist, Mary Anning, recognizing her significant contributions to science.
